Thoughts on Breeding Rabbits

I titled this post "Some thoughts on breeding rabbits". I feel like it really should be more like "do you ever think of anything except your rabbits?"

I find myself planning breedings on the car ride to work. I find myself considering sales lists at work. I think about ...

... sorry about that, I literally, in mid-sentence, thought about a doe who was set to kindle on August 11th, but hadn't yet, so I set off in to the dark, rainy night to go see if she had babies. Two! One broken black, beautifully marked, and a "pinky", which could really be anything at this point.

I digress, but this actually makes me point. A lot of my day is taken up with thinking of the bunnies or activities surrounding them. Show entries! Ack... I've got entries to get in.

Do you see my problem? I'm trying to blog about rabbits and even then, I can't get through a paragraph without being hit by some new thought, plan or idea.

Many of us find rabbits to be an all consuming passion. It becomes less of a hobby and more of a way of life. A friend of mine is all but selling out and I admire her strength in "escaping the habit".

As I was saying earlier, rabbits are usually the first thing I think about in the morning and the last thing I think about at night. On our recent anniversary trip, I checked in daily with the pet sitter, my friend Becca, to make sure everyone was okay.

I have been breeding rabbits for almost seven years. Sometimes, I rue the day I ever decided to get in to showing. Other days, I wonder how I would have gotten through some very hard times without them. Regardless, good days or bad days, they are never far from my mind.
